G-29 WTSCOOKY.TXT WALK TO SCHOOL COOKIES (Sherry) (The name comes from them being so good you will eat them while you walk to school) 3 cups butter (2 cups butter and 2 cups sugar 1 cup Crisco) 1 TBS vanilla 1 1/2 cups Grape Nuts (not the 5 1/2 - 6 cups all purpose flour flakes) cereal Additional sugar for topping (powdered, brown, or granulated) NOTE: You can substitute margarine if it is margarine - not spread. 1. Let butter warm to room temperature. 2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 3. Cream the butter gradually adding the sugar. Beat until very light light and fluffy. 4. Add vanilla and mix. 5. Add Grape Nuts and mix. 6. Add flour 1 cup at a time and mix until just blended. Dough will be relatively firm and dry. You should be able to scoop some out and make a ball without getting your hands wet and sticky. 7. Shape dough into 1 - 1 1/2 inch balls. 8. Roll balls in the additional sugar and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. (Powdered sugar gives a texture like pecan sandies, granulated gives a crackle finish like snickerdoodles.) 9. Small size balls can be left round, larger ones press gently with a fork, but don't make them too flat. 10. Bake for 15 minutes. Cookies will be pale, do not brown. 11. Cool for at least 30 minutes. Makes approximately 7 dozen.
