SUGRCOOK.TXT OUR FAVORITE SUGAR COOKIES (Leigha) 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar 1 Tbs vanilla 1 cup butter flavor crisco 3 cups all purpose flour 2 eggs 3/4 tsp baking powder 1/4 cup light corn syrup 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt decorations: granulated sugar, colored sugar crystals, or powdered sugar frosting. 1. Beat sugar and crisco at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. 2. Beat in eggs, syrup, and vanilla. 3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. 4. Gradually add to creamed mixture, mixing just until blended. 5. Divide dough into quarters, wrap each quarter in plastic wrap, and refrigerate at least 1 hour. 6. Heat oven to 375 degrees. 7. Roll one piece of dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut dough with a floured cookie cutter, placing on an ungreased cookie sheet 1 1/2 inches apart. 8. Sprinkle with sugar or leave plain to frost. 9. Bake 5 - 9 minutes depending on size of cutter, until cookies are barely brown. Cool 2 minutes. 10. Place sheets of foil on countertops and place cookies on foil to cool completely. Frost if desired. Makes 3 - 4 dozen cookies.
